What we do

The SKLPC Saturday School currently hold:

Tuition classes in English and Maths for years 4 to 11 and A-Level Maths classes. Our main objective has always been to provide additional help to students, thereby raising their standards and confidence. This is essential as the complexity of the educational system is mind-boggling with SATs, GCSEs, AS and A-Levels. Science revision classes for years 9 to 11 can be held subject to demand.

Gujarati classes from the age of 5 years and can continue up until GCSE. We have also started Adult Gujarati classes as a result of the renewed interest parents have shown, and we hope that this will prove useful to parents who get lost when helping their children with their Gujarati homework!

Cultural classes are held in Folk Dance, Bollywood Dance, Tabla, Harmonium and Advanced Harmonium, and these are open to children over the age of five.

Masti Music is continuing successfully, and practices are held regularly at Hendon Samaj Hall. They have had a number of successful shows, and are continuously receiving bookings for various events. Masti will again be performing at the SKLPC Navratri Function this year.

History

SKLPC Saturday School was founded in 1980 initially teaching Gujarati at the SKLP community hall in Hendon.

In 1985 due to the schools great demand, two schools were established in Finchley and Kenton area. Tuition classes in Math and English were started in 1994 at Claremont High School in Kenton. This became increasingly popular with GCSE students and since then has had a continuous growth. The school was then further expanded in the Tuition classes to provide education for children between the ages, five and seven which is known as Bal-mandir. We began to provide additional classes for children with special cases such as learning difficulties and, classes in a variety of subjects based on demand.

In April 1998 Culture classes were introduced with the aim to introduce and enhance culture in our community.
